NobelGuide™ PlanMeca ProMax Quick-Guide for Radiologists pdf

General

• Patient Scan – with the template firmly fixed in the patient’s mouth, as instructed by the dentist.
• Dual Jaw Scans (where necessary) – Mandible and Maxilla must be scanned separately.
• Radiographic Template Scan – template alone on the Styrofoam holder provided by PLANMECA.
• Remove metallic objects such as jewelry and metal prostheses.
Patient Preparation, Positioning and Scanning
a) Template Placement: Ensure that the denture appliance is fixed and stable in the patient’s mouth. The technologist should not perform the scan if the appliance does not fit easily and soundly in
the patient’s jaw - contact the dentist.
b) Patient Positioning: Select 3D Standard program. Select “teeth” targeting. Select FULL for diameter and FULL for height. If the lower jaw (mandible) is to be scanned, position the chin cup
in the highest position on the patient positioning mask. For upper jaw (maxilla), position the chin cup in the lowest position in the patient support mask.

In upper jaw (maxilla) cases of fully edentulous patients, it is recommended to use the TMJ positioner (image A) adjusted to the highest position in the patient support mask. This will allow for maximum sinus capture with the full maxilla.

Select the “Go 3D” button on the graphical user interface (GUI). Select NORMAL resolution. Have the patient enter the machine either standing or sitting in a chair. Center the patient so that the upper laser divides the face into two symmetrical halves (midline). The patient’s head should be tilted to minimize the interference of the jaw and teeth images with artifacts stemming from metal fillings. It’s best to position the occlusal plane parallel to the floor. NOTE: Preview function option can be enabled to check scout images for patient positioning.

The position of the layer light denotes the front of the volume being scanned and should be placed touching the anterior most surface of the teeth or scan appliance.

Any metal objects such as jewelry should be removed from the scanned
region.
c) Patient Scanning: After finalizing the positioning process, ask the patient to close their eyes, remain motionless and not swallow during the scan. Continue to perform the scan.

Template Positioning and Scanning
a) Positioning: The scan appliance should be placed on the Styrofoam (Polystyrene) guide holder supplied by PLANMECA (figure 1), in the same orientation as scanned in the patient’s mouth. Position the guide holder in the highest position on the patient support mask.

b) Template Targeting: Select 3D Standard program. Select teeth target. Select FULL for Diameter and LOWER for Height. Select NORMAL resolution. Set the kVp to 70 and the mA to 8. These values may vary depending on the material of the scan appliance. Select the “Go 3D” button on the GUI. Position the appliance so the upper laser divides the appliance into two symmetrical halves. Set the Layer Light to be just forward (anterior) of the scan appliance. Take the scan.
